This where in 1881,
Billy the Kid "borrowed" a horse after he escaped from the
Courthouse Jail in Lincoln.
The Block Elk Ranch is at the base of the Capitan Mts., where the burnt bear cub
"Smokey Bear" was found.
This year we'll add
a novel twist and backtrack the trail, leaving Fort Sumner on April 21st.
and
arriving in Lincoln
on April 28th. Billy the Kid will be with us the entire ride,
reliving his
experience that became part of the legend.

Friday April 29th, 2005 on the Old Block Ranch which in the 1880's was the town
site for Las Tablas. Billy the Kid had the rest of his shackles cut off at Las
Tablas after he escaped from the Lincoln County Courthouse on April 28th, 1881
having traveled over the mountains in the background through the Capitan Gap.
