Quilters Memorial Wall

In New York there are walls covered with flags, photos, and letters. We would like to start a "Quilters Memorial Wall" here. Quilters are very special people and so many right now are doing whatever they can to help. From making quilts to sell or auction to raise money for victims, to those making quilts to mark these tragic events in history, and those making quilts to warm someone that was caught up in the fury of these events. This is your wall.

My name is Jean Kaste and I designed and made this quilt. I started it on Sept 11 and chose the heart because those tragic events touched all of our hearts and souls. I live in Indiana, far away from all tragedy. But those of us not directly involved still feel the pain of it. The quilt was a way for me to relax and quiet the mind.
Thank you--

I donated a wallhanging to my local fire dept. (we are a town of about 8000 so this is the only one in our town) this afternoon. They are so appreciative of it and I thank you for sharing such a wonderful gift with all of us!!

Thank you again so much for allowing us to use your wonderful design in memory of this horrific tragedy. I am attached photos showing the back
giving you credit for the designing of the wall hanging and a picture of the front. Everyone loves it. We have a substation in local Simon DeBartolo's Indian River Mall and are planning on displaying it there. Being a public agency, we can't raffle but are going to do a silent auction. I will let
you know how we do. Again, thanks from the bottom of my heart.

Hi Mary - here are two pictures of two blocks I made for the WTC Memorial Quilt project. The first is Star of Hope and is dedicated to my husband's business employees @ Marsh, Inc. who lost over 300 employees in Tower 1 - they were located on the floors that the first plane struck. The other star is Right Hand of Friendship which I dedicated to another Marsh employee that was a passenger on the airplane that struck Tower 2.

Even if we had not been personally affected by this terrible tragedy, I would have made the blocks to send for all those that lost loved ones, for those in the recovery project and for all Americans who are struggling to rebuild their lives and carry on. I truly feel those that were lost to us will guide us into our future. We are stronger, more determined and closer than ever before. God Bless all your efforts to continue that bond.

I made the "God Bless America" quilt for my son-in-law that is in your national guard. It helped me to express how deeply we Canadians felt your tragedy.
I wanted the flag to be as authentic as possible. I printed the stars portion on fabric with my computer. (The fabric had been treated prior to printing to ensure the ink would be permanent.)
The tower fabric was one with tiny squares on it. To achieve the light/dark effect, I turned it over and used the back for the lighter portion.
I finished the binding while watching the special telethon held on Friday September 21st by the entertainment industry.

God Bless Quilt made by members of the New Mexico Quilters Association. The quilt was made in a very short time and seeing the quilt in person I was impressed with all the detail work that went into it. Unfortunatly it really can't be seen in this photo.  The back of the quilt was quite stunning as well. I saw the quilt displayed at the State Fair here and drew quite a bit of attention. The quilt will end up being auctioned to raise money for relief efforts.

The makers of the quilt were:
Linda Erickson, Geneie Brown, Julie Hogan, Susan Linville, and Annette Murrin.
