                 The Bible Tells Me So...

      Smote, smite, slew, slain
      what a lovely fucking refrain
      Kill and be killed is the salient feature
      from god right down to the lowliest creature
      Testaments to anthrocentric opportunism
      well deserving of intellectual cynicism
      This patriarchal caste system is perfectly clear
      god's the man at the top, held by coercion and fear
      Damage begets damage and that damage more
      such as classification of women as virgin, mother, or whore
      and land, wives, cattle and children as chattel, all due
      to the self interests of men, to name but a few...

      This profound irrationality is posed as a test of our faith
      while reason is left a shrouded and disheveled wraith
      Ravaged by rampant fear and incipient weakness
      men created god in their own idealized likeness
      Thou shalt love this god above all else, even more than life
      and endure eons of horrendous toil and strife
      Leaders propounded "might is god's right" to the masses
      "therefore shall you walk behind while we ride on our asses"
      Thus cleansed of those smitten by their own deeds dead
      like Damocles' sword, they hung Earth by a thread...

      Our "immortal" souls are not really ours it would seem
      Time spent here and now is but a ghastly dream
      By god's grace we are absolved of personal responsibility
      for our lives, the casual gift of masculine deity,
      conditional upon obedience to law and maintaining one's place
      that we "saved" be allowed to awaken to eternal grace
      "The Devil made him do it," is a popular notion
      yet I can't invoke it to explain this commotion
      Hacking up your fellow beings is taxing and arduous labor
      Controlling their hearts and minds is the alternative long in favor
      Expediency is the driving force behind "god's" ultimatum
      Mediocrity is the price we pay and so ad infinitum...
