The Wonder Of It All Chance and Circumstance went for a walk Perchance it was Circumstance led them to talk About which came first, the host or the flea And various other facets of quote reality Like how it came to pass How some who have amassed Within their lives such power & wealth with the requisite buffer of security They must attribute their good fortune to some external benevolent deity "The luck of the draw," said Chance, "for the greedy," "and the old shell game for the rest of the needy!" Said Circumstance, "There seems much to support your argument and yet" "I also see the general acceptance with which the status quo is met!" "Is it not possible that," Circumstance then continued, "rich and poor alike with the same obsession are imbued" "with something hidden deep within their plutocratic hearts?" "A strange psychic mechanism rarely countered once it starts," "an exclusive burning yearning for fiscal milk and honey," "and the combative language used in the apotheosis of money!" "Nay," said Chance, "it's a roll of the dice" "at birth determines for men as for mice" "the path they shall follow on their journey through life," "and to what extent they are smitten by toil and strife!" "Does not humankind through wisdom," said Circumstance, "and knowledge seek to alter this course laid by chance?" "Avarice and intellect," replied Chance, "at work in tandem," "have had scant effect on all such things that manifest at random;" "for crude things it works, such as missile ballistics," "yet at the edge of reality Science must use statistics!" "Still, and what of the soul," said Circumstance, upon reflection, "and the psyche, are they merely the products of introspection?" "Statistics again!", roared Chance, "for with so many galaxies" "in the universe there will doubtless be occasional anomalies!" "We've reached the end of our walk," said Circumstance, "and thus our talk;" "to discover meaning in so short a time, we scarcely can begin," "and all that trouble to ask why must find the answer within." aszsa
