[22503] His will was administered by his brother, Pablo. It was declared that Simon was survived by his widow Peregrina Cambell de Delgado and three children, Pedro, Josefa and Gregoria Naciansena
[22504] Archbishop Lamy asked the Holy See for permission to dispose of the Castrese (the Military Chapel of Our Lady of Light) because it sat in the middle of the row of houses just south of the Plaza and worshippers entering or leaving it were subjected to the ribaldries of disorderly park lounger, who with diabolic conduct and tumult disrupted the services inside. The Holy See agreed. The alterpiece was removed (now in Cristo Rey) and on February 22 1859, Lamy sold the property to Simon Delgado for $2000 and a piece of land that was used for St. Michael's College. Delgado razed the church back to the sanctuary, put up a commercial building out front and incorporated the walls into a 2 storied residence in the back. In the store Delgado was said to have "kept an assorted stock of dry goods, groceries and liquors, and disposed of them for cash, as he found customers among the poor and needy." In 1881 Peregrina sold some of the land to the east to the Speigelberg brothers next door. This property is where the Penney's store was on the Plaza.

The death record of one of his daughters says he was born in Golden which was called Real de San Francisco a new mining camp in 1842. His God Parents were from El Tuerco, a near by mining camp.

He has in the past he has been confused with another Felipe B. Delgado baptized on April 7, 1821. There may be confusion by some with the children also.

The home at 124 West Palace Avenue was built by Felipe in 1890 on land, purchased in 1877, that had been a part of the picket line for cavalry horses at the juncture of the Santa Fe Trail and the Camino Real. The house remained in the family until 1970 when it was purchased and renovated by John Gaw Meem who then in 1980 donated the Delgado house to the Historic Santa Fe Foundation to insure its continued preservation. The house is featured on page 49 of the Fouth Edition of Old Santa Fe Today. 1991.
