Census 1830, NC, Ashe Co.
[87354]
His age on the 1830 Ashe County census was in the 50 year old box. The 1800 Randolph County, North Carolina census brackets his age as 16-26. These two census records and the fact that he had a young son under 10 years old on that 1800 census suggest that he was born about 1775. The fact that he was born in Maryland was learned from his son's (Jarrad) census listing of Jarrad's father's and mother's birth place on both the 1870 and 1880 Ashe County census.
A possibility (unproven and only a guess) for his ancestory is that he was the son of:
Samuel Duvall (22 June 1708 - )/Elizabeth Talbott (c1711 - ) son of
John Duvall, Captain (c1660)/Elizabeth Jones (c1660 - ) s/o
Mareen Duvall (c1625 - )/Mary Bouth (c1634 - ) s/o
Massit Duvall (c1604 - )/Margaret Orbin (c1608 - ) s/o
William Du Vall (c1580 - )/Alexine Mamusin (c1580 - )
This from Duvall Family Tree site by Ron Ulrich www.erols.com/ulrich/DUVALL-tree.html
[87358] He is listed as Samuel Duvaul, but the index incorrectly lists him as Samuel Duvarel. The family listing is for one male under age 10, on male age 16-26 and one female age 16-26.
[87360]
In this census his name was spelled Davaul. The household was as follows:
3 males under age 10 1 female under age 10
1 male age 10 - 16
1 male age 26 - 45 1 female age 26 - 45
The Census records for 182O for Randolph County, North Carolina were destroyed but in 1819, Samuel's oldest son John was married in Randolph County so it would seem that Samuel was in Randolph County at that time also.
[87362] He is listed in the census with his wife and 3 children. Sometime before this he had settled on the Long Branch. It most likely seems to have been on what is now called James Duvall Road, near where Nera Duvall now lives. The Duvalls owned land from the top of Greenwood Hill to the mouth of the Little Helton Creek. In 1831 the state of North Carolina granted 31 acres of land on the Waters of the Helton to Samuel for $.10 an acre. His land joined the land of the Waddell family.
