[55928] A soldier stationed in the San Lorenzo de Picuris area, was instrumental in the capture of the indian "Cueno Verde". A leader of remarkable prowess had risen to dominate the Comanche Tribe, "a scourge of the kingdom" Anza wrote Croix" who had exterminated many pueblos, killing hundreds and making as many prisoner whom he afterwards sacrificed in cold blood". This man known throughout New Mexico as "Cuerno Verde", hated the Spaniards with a cold fury born of the moment they had killed his father in battle.
