The 1910 census said Benigna had 20 kids and 6 were still alive. The 1920 census said she was a widow, owned her home free of a mortgage, white female, widow, farmer on home farm, cannot read or write or speak English. She had 2 daughters and a son still at home.
[ Benina said her mother (parents?) were from the Picuris Pueblo and were Navaho Indians.]
[ Nicanor's daughter, Helena, says not Navajo, but TAGWAH Indians. Her son Mike did some of that genealogy.]
Benina's people were Navajo or Tigua ("TEE wah") Indians. Her church records:Benigna Romero.

She lived with her son Nicanor and his wife Stella after her husband Miguel died. (Must have been a long time later, as Nicanor was age 6 when his father died!) Mike says she lived alone after her children grew up and got married, until she got very sick and then moved into her son Nick's house next door until she died at age 72. Mike was living in CA at the time.
Helen Vialpando said that Benina said her husband JMB was one of the 8 immigrant Brito brothers from Great Britain, and that Britain was named after the Brito family from Spain. (Look up Migel Brito on the immigrant lists!)

CaseyJuneCastleberry.... dallas1fem@hotmail.com .... traces her lineage thru Felipe, whose later census records have him born in RioArriba County, near Albuquerque. His wife and daughter died in Penasco. His descendants marry into our surnames: Archuleta, Duran, Gonzales ,Lovato, Lujan, Maestas, Martinez, Medina, Romero, Sanchez, Vialpando, Vigil. His descendants also echo our given names: dau Maria Dolores Gallegos b.1829; grson Miguel Antonio Gallegos, b.April1859; grgrson Amador Gallegos, b.May 1891 COUSINS OF SOME TYPE, I BET!
Joseph Gallegos and Maria Candelaria's sixth child, MARIA MANUAL DeJESUS GALLEGOS, b. March 30, 1777, near Albuquerque, (read that to be, RioArriba County!), is the one that I believe is Maria Benina Gallegos grandfather. So far I have not found his wife or children.
The counties in NM were created in 1852 and later. Penasco is in Taos County; Embudo and Dixon are in RioArriba County; Picuris Pueblo is in Questa County. Penasco is only a little ways from an Indian village called Picuris Pueblo. MAB says his Indian ancestors lived on a reservation named Picuris.

NOTE: The Great New Mexico Pedigree has Maria Benina Romero twice. #132714 parents are
Jose Tomas Romero and Maria Margrita Martin. They were baptized in Abiquiu on 25 Jan 1863 and on 27 Oct 1864. Looks like the first one died?
