[46180] Dora's (Dallas') house, located at the corner of Washington Avenue and Nusbaum Street, was a social showplace for many years. It was originally owned by Civil War Governor Henry Connelly. It was next owned by merchant Lehman Spiegelberg. President Rutherford B. Hayes stayed in the home overnight in 1880. Jesse and Dallas purchased the home and lived in it after the Spiegelbergs. The area just north of the house had been the cow pasture in the early 1900s The demolition of the house in late 1960 and early 1961 caused a great deal of controversy and played a major role in the formation of the Historic Santa Fe Foundation, which works to preserve historic buildings in Santa Fe. The home can be seen in photographs by Jesse Nusbaum (Photo negative no. 61487), back yard, and Tyler Dingee (Negative no. 91901), front of the house facing Washington Avenue at The Museum of New Mexico. (It appears that Jesse and Simon were not related.)
[46173] Records show her name as Dora, the family knew her as Dallas.
[46176] The Rev. William Crews officiated at the 10:00 a.m. burial service. Block's Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

[25634] Note: The Baptism records of her children show a Variety of names, the family usually called her "Flora".
[25635]
Tata, the house keeper and nanny in the Girard house hold was buried in the same cemetery as Flora and Emilio. She claimed to be a half sister of one of Kit Carson's wives.
[25637]
Because the Rutledge Farm (Plantation) was destroyed in the Civil War, thought to be when Sherman burned Georgia on his "march to the sea", Flora acquired a strong hatred for the Federal Army and ascribed all the blame to Abraham Lincoln. In her old age several family members thought it great fun to mention Abraham Lincoln's name to listen to Flora launch into a long tirade about the "devil himself."
[25639] She came with her mother and grandfather from Chatooga County, Georgia when she was 4 years old.
