Don Luis was the founder of the De La Serna dde Medina Sidonia family, which was the first family established there. By the age of 20, he was the Duke's page. Later he became the Governador of the castle of Chiclana. On April 7, 1540, he received the homage of Knight and Blood Nobleman, by Royal decree, representing the Crown outside Spain as a diplomat. Since his domain was adjacent to Sanlucar, he was also granted Knighthood and Chancellory over Granada by Royal decree on April 14, 1556. He was granted the same title over Medina Sidonia on March 8, 1558. He was also granted the title of "El Magnifico Seņor Luis de la Serna, Alcayde de Chiclana y Gobernador de Toda la Frontera".

Don Pedro won the office of Alcalde de la Villa de Caravaca, by vote, through the "Noble Estate" in October 7, 1576. He was received as an "Hildalgo" in the city of Granada and there received his Coat of Arms, goods, and tribute. On October 5, 1578 he was elected into the Noble Estate, as Alcalde of the Santa Hermandad. He created the "basis" of his own "house" in Caravaca and from him descended the "Viscouts of the Royal Grace", and the Sernas of New Mexico.
