I first became interested in Creation Science in 1978 when I read Scientific Creationism by Dr. Henry Morris (1974). My husband and I had been baptized in the Holy Spirit in November 1969 and as time went on, we came to believe that more and more parts of the Bible were true.

When I read Scientific Creationism, my reaction was, "Oh, the Genesis account of creation is true too!"

Then, ten years later, from 1988 to 1996, I worked at Sandia Labs as a System Administrator/ Jack-of-all-Trades Computer Scientist in the same division as Dr. D. Russell Humphreys.

From The Answers In Genesis biography of Russ Humphreys:

Dr. Russ Humphreys is one of the world's most highly regarded creation scientists engaged in ground-breaking research. Since 1979 he has worked at the Sandia National Laboratories (New Mexico) in nuclear physics. He has published numerous science articles, and is the author of Starlight and Time, in which he proposes a model that the universe may only be thousands of years old even though light from distant stars appears to have taken much longer to reach Earth. His Ph.D. is in physics from Louisiana State University.

He has been connected with Creation Science groups for a long time. He and I talked about this topic quite a bit and I learned a lot. He wrote the book Starlight and Time which I had the privilege of proofreading.

Because of the proximity of Sandia Labs and Los Alamos in New Mexico, Albuquerque has a very active Creation Science Fellowship of New Mexico which I attended regularly for about 4 years.

Creation Science is an important issue in Evangelical circles. Because the Bible is the basis of Protestant beliefs, it is more important to them to show that the Bible is true, including its description of Creation in Genesis. For Catholics this is not a burning issue, but personally, I wish we would pay more attention to the scientific research that the Protestant scientists are doing.

The Church does not want to teach infallibly any scientific theory whether it be astronomy or evolution. I look at Pope John Paul II's Statement about Evolution 10/22/1996 as his saying, "Scientists, go study the issue." rather than "Scientists, I believe evolution is true."

This article, The Galileo Controversy, describes the Galileo issue.
