**************************************************************************** PITCHING: You may have three different modes of "Usage" for pitching: Strict, Time, or Skip. Strict will just play your pitchers in the order that you list them under starters. Skip is like Strict, except that if you have a rest day then it will play your 1st starter earlier. Time proportionally doles out the starts to all of your starters on the roster based upon how many real life starts they have (it effectively chucks your starting rotation out the window). You must list a minimum of 4 starters, and even then, it's probably a better idea to go with 5 to prevent early burnout. If you use "Strict" or "Skip" (but *NOT* "Time"), you may use spot starters. Spot starters will start a certain percentage of the time (specified by you) in place of the regular starter. Since the "Time" usage doesn't really use the starting pitching profile, using spot starters won't help. Also note, you are limited to one spot starter per "regular" starter, and you must specify a percentage you wish to spot start them (otherwise, it's going to be 0%, and it's just as if you never specified a starter in the first place). People who have a durability rating for starters may start. People who have a durability rating for relievers may relieve. People who have durability ratings for both may do both. Note: In the regular season, players of any IP may be mentioned in the profile. There is no minimum IP for the regular season (but there is the 110% usage rule). For relievers, you should specify your closers vs left or right, setup men vs left or right, and your long & mopup starters. You may list up to 5 people for each of these spots, and you put players in multiple slots (although you can't list them twice in the same spot). Since we don't have minimum IP or batters faced requirements for mention in the profile during the regular season (other than the minimum 75 batters faced to be on the active roster), this could potentially lead to teams burning out large numbers of their players early who didn't have many IP to begin with. I ask that you try to pace your players so that this doesn't happen. **************************************************************************** Manager Profile for 1996 Albuquerque Maul Pitching Chart Usage mode: Strict Rotation size: 4 Next starter: 1 Starting Rotation Smoltz Rosado Rueter Estes Spot Starters Spot Pct Mopup situations Jarvis Tavarez Perez Huisman Long relievers Tavarez Jarvis Myers,Ro Olson Huisman Setup vs LHB Fetters Myers,Ro Olson Setup vs RHB Fetters Perez Loiselle Closers vs LHB McMichael Closers vs RHB McMichael Mlicki ***************************************************************************** Batting lineups: You will need to submit lineups for both LHP & RHP. You may also mention platoon players (those that come in when a reliever of the opposite handedness does) and defensive players (those that come in the late innings of close games). The way you can distribute playing time is by letting the utility players start a certain %age of the games. You can monitor this by either of two ways: Trackstarts or game by game. Trackstarts looks at the season as a whole, and tries to distribute playing time so that at the end of the season the playing time has been distributed %age-wise according to the diagram. Game by game randomly determines who starts the games without regards to past performances. Here a utility player with a 20% start rate has a 20% chance of starting that game. You can also have up to 5 pinch hitters for each side. There are pinch hitters for LHP and pinch hitters for RHP for each side of the depth chart. The DMB manual doesn't really explain why they have these redundant PH profiles, but I'd recommend just putting the same guys as PH vs RHP on both sides, and do the same for PH vs LHP. There is no minimum PA that you need to be mentioned in the profile (besides the 35 PA minimum to be on the active roster). But remember that there is a 110% total plate apparance limit, and a 200% plate apperance limit for each side. Try not to burn people out early. ************************************************************************** ----- Catcher ----- --- First Base ---- --- Second Base --- --- Third Base ---- Start Wehner Mabry DeShields Palmer Plat Flaherty Clark Def Knorr McCarty Fonville Util1 Flaherty 0 Clark 0 Canizaro 20 Rodriguez 0 Util2 Util3 Util4 Util5 ---- Shortstop ---- --- Left Field ---- -- Center Field --- --- Right Field --- Start Listach Belle Johnson Mondesi Plat Velarde Def Rodriguez Tavarez Johnson Mondesi Util1 Canizaro 0 Tavarez 0 Tavarez 0 Tavarez 0 Util2 Util3 Util4 Util5 Designated Hitter ---- PH vs LHP ---- ---- PH vs RHP ---- Start Plat Def Util1 Flaherty Obando Util2 Clark Util3 Util4 Util5 .................................................................................................... Setting everything to neutral will pretty must just use your team to its abilities (IE-if you have a guy who steals a lot of bases, he still will steal a lot of bases). These set the aggressiveness or passiveness of your team on certain issues.
