This is a quick project and makes a great last minute gift idea. It is also a good project for using up fabric strips left over from other projects. I have also made them with different holidays themes. They are a great way to dress up your buffet, as well as add a nice fragrance to the room. You can make smaller versions as well for use as coasters for a hot cup of coffee. IMPORTANT NOTE: Be sure to use 100% cotton, and a natural batting such as wool, or cotton. Polyester fabrics or battings could melt with use. |

For the center square I like to use a print that I can cut a central motif from. One year I found a great Christmas print that was made up of blocks of all different Christmas motifs. About a 3" motif square and 1" strips work well for a medium sized trivet. |
| I am not going to get into how to construct a log cabin block here. If you need help in understanding how to piece your block we have an animation on the Log Cabin page that shows how to piece the block. |
Once you have your center motif square, cut two pieces of muslin the same size. Sew around three sides as shown and fill loosely with some potpourri. Sew the last side closed. |
Lay out your backing fabric, batting, and then set the sachet sack in the center. |
Top with your log cabin block. Pin or baste all the layers and quilt. Finish by binding the edges. |
