Hanging Sleeves for Quilts

Hanging sleeves on your quilts not only make the quilt look better when displayed, they also save your quilt from getting pulled out of shape. All except for the smallest quilts should be hung using a sleeve. The finished width for a small quilt should measure around 3", and around 5" for a large quilt. The example below is for a 3" sleeve.

Measure the top side of your quilt (edge to edge). Cut a strip of you backing fabric or a piece of muslin 6 1/2" wide and the width of your quilt.
Turn under the short edges of the strip.
With right sides together sew edge of strip.
Turn right side out and press with the seam in the center.
Pin in place across the top side of the quilt and stitch by hand along the top and bottom edge of the sleeve. You also need to stitch down the inside of the two short ends.
To hang your quilt you can use a commerial curtain rod. Or you can simply use a wooden dowel with two eye hooks screwed into the ends.
