Saint Bernadette Institute of Sacred Art

The Art Institute was established in Albuquerque, New Mexico, U.S.A., in 1993, out of an ever-growing need to encourage artists, of all religions, to carry-on the centuries-old tradition of creating sacred imageries. In a world encompassed in secularism, it is the aspiration of the Institute to promote and encourage religious art, not only for the inspiration of the people, but for the glory of God.

The purpose of the Institute is to promote, educate, initiate, formulate, encourage interest, and sustain projects and persons engaged in Sacred Art.

The Institute works closely with other religious art organizations throughout the United States, offering quality space for artists to display and perform their works. This "gathering of minds" also facilitates the sharing of knowledge, ideas and dreams, which fosters growth in the spiritual life.

Though the Institute is attached to the Roman Catholic Church, each aspect of the organization is open to all individuals who share similar interests, regardless of their religious affiliations.

Activities

A Directory of names and addresses of artists who dedicate their artistry to Sacred Imagery has been organized and will be maintained. This information is available to assist religious organizations in searching out artists for their specific needs.

The Institute's archives holds a healthy collection of color slides of Sacred Art created by American artists. This compilation of works may be viewed at the Institute by appointment.

Four annual exhibitions are presented, featuring traditional and contemporary works of art. Interim exhibits display the permanent collection of the Institute.

A collection of books and videos pertaining to religious art and artists, including manuscripts relating to Mariology and St. Bernadette of Lourdes, is available for research.

Lectures, demonstrations, seminars, and retreats, given by Master Artists, are offered at the Institute.

Annual Awards are conferred upon individuals who have shown outstanding performances in the field of Sacred Imagery and the Arts.

A quarterly newsletter provides a vehicle for informing artists, and those interested in the arts, of Institute events and forth-coming exhibitions, lectures, seminars, concerts, and retreats.

The Institute offers visitors, not only a space to view the exhibitions, but also a chapel, which extends a peaceful atmosphere for meditation and prayer.

The Institute is being run by Dan Paulos who is famous for his Black and white paper cuttings. He has a book of Mother Teresa's sayings illustrated with pictures of his paper cuttings.
