The AAA level of Professional baseball has a new look for 1998! Some team nicknames have changed, some teams have moved up a level from last year, and there are some new or relocated teams due to major league baseball adding the Arizona Diamondbacks and Tampa Bay Devil Rays for 1998. But the most exciting change is the elimination of a 3-league setup in favor of 2 leagues with an exciting Triple-A World Series to be played at the end of each season. Las Vegas will host the Triple-A World Series in 1998, 1999, and 2000 and future sites are to be announced. The two leagues are the International League and the Pacific Coast League. For the Pacific Coast League, the split season format has been eliminated. There is no first half and second half with a playoff series at the end of each season involving the division half-season winners. It is crucial to get off to a good start as there is no longer a second chance to start with a clean slate later in the season. Here is the breakdown of who is in each league: INTERNATIONAL LEAGUE PACIFIC COAST LEAGUE ============================= ================================= Buffalo Bisons (Indians) Albuquerque Dukes (Dodgers) Charlotte Knights (Marlins) Calgary Cannons (White Sox) Columbus Clippers (Yankees) Colorado Springs Sky Sox (Rockies) Durham Bulls (Devil Rays) Edmonton Trappers (Athletics) Indianapolis Indians (Reds) Fresno Grizzlies (Giants) Louisville Redbirds (Brewers) Iowa Cubs (Cubs) Norfolk Tides (Mets) Las Vegas Stars (Padres) Ottawa Lynx (Expos) Memphis Redbirds (Cardinals) Pawtucket Red Sox (Red Sox) Nashville Sounds (Pirates) Richmond Braves (Braves) New Orleans Zephyrs (Astros) Rochester Red Wings (Orioles) Oklahoma Redhawks (Rangers) Scranton/Wilkes Barre Red Barons Omaha Royals (Royals) (Phillies) Salt Lake Buzz (Twins) Syracuse SkyChiefs (Blue Jays) Tacoma Rainiers (Mariners) Toledo Mud Hens (Tigers) Tucson Sidewinders (D'Backs) Vancouver Canadians (Angels)
