Our definition of "Planet" is somewhat different from that of ancient peoples. We no longer consider the Moon a proper planet (because it orbits another planet) and we certainly don't consider the Sun a planet (because it's a star!).
Without telescopes, the ancients couldn't see Uranus, Neptune, or Pluto.
